The Aid! Playbook

A short, plain-language survey becomes a complete financial-aid forms playbook: which forms each college needs, the costly mistakes to avoid, what to gather, when each deadline lands, how to appeal, and a guided walkthrough of each form step by step.

The FAFSA® is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is free, and you never have to pay anyone to complete or file it (studentaid.gov). This is strategy guidance, not the forms themselves; we never complete or file them for you.

The forms are free. Getting them wrong is expensive.

The problem

The FAFSA® is free to file, and the CSS Profile® (administered by College Board) is how many private colleges decide their own aid. But each college asks for a different set of forms, the questions about parents and money trip families up, and the deadlines are scattered and early. A single wrong answer about whose income to report, or a missed priority date, can cost real aid.

The Aid! Playbook works through your situation in plain language, maps each college on your list to the exact forms it needs, names the specific mistakes that fit your family, and lays out the documents, deadlines, and an appeal plan, then walks you through each form step by step, so you file the real forms yourself with confidence.

Three steps. One financial-aid strategy.

1

Answer a short survey about your family and your college list.

Plain-language questions about who your parents are, your college list, and your money picture in ranges only. We never ask for an SSN, an FSA ID, or account numbers. Your Roster profile or a Shortlist match can supply some answers as starting points; edit anything.

2

We map every college to the exact forms it requires.

Each school on your list is sorted into FAFSA-only or FAFSA plus CSS Profile, with its noncustodial-parent and document requirements and its priority deadline. We flag the costly mistakes that fit your specific family, never a generic checklist.

3

Get a per-college map, a document checklist, a timeline, and an appeal plan.

Your playbook includes a plain-language read of your aid positioning, the per-college forms map, a personalized list of mistakes to avoid, a document checklist, a month-by-month timeline, and an appeal playbook. Then open the guided walkthrough and work through each form section by section, with your family's notes beside every step. You file the real forms yourself on the official sites.

What this is, and what it isn't.

What it is

  • An educational guide to getting the FAFSA and CSS Profile right.
  • A per-college map of which forms each school needs and when they are due.
  • A personalized list of the costly mistakes that fit your family.
  • A guided walkthrough of each form, step by step, with notes tuned to your family.

What it isn't

  • We never complete or file the forms for you. You file them yourself.
  • We never ask for your FSA ID, SSN, or account numbers.
  • It is not financial, legal, or tax advice, and it does not compute your official aid number.

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is free, and you never have to pay anyone to complete or file it. File it yourself for free at studentaid.gov.

CSS Profile is administered by College Board. Find it at cssprofile.collegeboard.org.

EduFinder is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid, or College Board.

We never ask for your FSA ID, SSN, or account numbers, and we never complete or file the forms for you. This is an educational guide.

Fair questions, straight answers.

What we would want to know before trusting a financial-aid tool.

Is the FAFSA free?

Yes, always. The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and you never have to pay anyone to complete or file it; you file it yourself for free at studentaid.gov. The Aid! Playbook is strategy guidance for getting the forms right, and it never charges you to file anything.

Do you file the forms for us?

No. We never complete or file the FAFSA or CSS Profile for you, and we never ask for your FSA ID, SSN, or account numbers. The Aid! Playbook is an educational guide: it tells you which forms each college needs, the mistakes to avoid, and what to gather, and you file the real forms yourself on the official sites.

What does the playbook actually include?

A plain-language read of your aid positioning, a per-college map of which forms each school needs (FAFSA-only versus FAFSA plus CSS Profile, plus noncustodial-parent and document requirements and the priority deadline), a personalized list of the costly mistakes that fit your family, a document checklist, a month-by-month timeline, an appeal playbook, and a guided step-by-step walkthrough of the FAFSA and CSS Profile.

Do you walk us through the actual forms?

Yes. Once your playbook is ready, a guided walkthrough takes you through the FAFSA and the CSS Profile section by section, with a note tuned to your family beside every step that matters and a checkbox to track your progress. You keep the official form open in another tab; we never see what you type there, and you file on the official sites.

Why do you ask about money in ranges?

Because we only need a rough read to tailor the guidance, and ranges keep your information private. We never ask for exact amounts, and we never compute a SAI or an aid number; we link the official Federal Student Aid Estimator and each college's net price calculator for that.

Can I see a sample first?

Yes. You can read a complete sample playbook, built from a fictional family, before you answer anything or sign in.

Is this affiliated with the government or College Board?

No. EduFinder is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid, or College Board. We just help you navigate the forms.

What happens to my answers?

Your answers are stored privately to generate your playbook and are never sold or shared. We never collect SSNs, FSA IDs, or account numbers, and you can delete everything from your dashboard at any time.

One playbook. One complete financial-aid strategy.

Answer first. Generate yours.
